Hargreaves leaves the pitch holding his hamstring.

The Canadian-born defensive midfielder, who featured 42 times for England, could have been a prominent force in English football, but his injury problems were all too consistent and after breaking his leg, which then turned into patellar tendinitis, his career was practically over.

After making 145 appearances in eight seasons at Bayern Munich, the Englishman went on to feature 27 times for Manchester United and just once for Manchester City.

Perhaps the moment that showcases the extent of his injury woes is from 2011, when he started a game for Manchester United after over two years out of the game, before limping off after just six minutes. He retired at the age of 31.
