The transfer window closed last night with many of the key deals going right to the wire.
Over the course of the summer, Premier League spending reached over £1billion for the first time and 11 top-flight clubs smashed their transfer records; with Manchester City spending the most, followed shortly by Manchester United.
In previous years, transfer deadline day has seen several high profile signings including: Jermain Defoe signing for Tottenham in 2004, Argentines Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano joining West Ham United in 2006 and Andy Carroll switching Newcastle United for Liverpool in 2011.
Before Deadline Day, the Premier League had already seen the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Ahmed Musa, Claudio Bravo and Shkodran Mustafi all join Premier League clubs and many deals were still to be completed going into the final day.
With Deadline Day now complete, here are five of the top deals that were completed by Premier League clubs on the final day of the 2016 summer transfer window…
5. Moussa Sissoko
Having agreed a fee with Newcastle United and personal terms with the player, it looked certain that Sissoko would be off to Everton on Deadline Day.
However, at the very last minute, Tottenham matched the £30m bid for the midfielder and effectively hijacked the deal for the Frenchman.
After receiving this late bid, it was clear that the preference of the 27-year-old was Champions League football at White Hart Lane and Everton subsequently withdrew their offer and their interest.
It will be interesting to see how he fits into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans with the likes of Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier, Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Tom Carroll all available in the central midfield position.
