Top 5: Premier League players of the weekend including Chelsea, Manchester United and Spurs stars

Timo Werner

Chelsea’s summer signing from RB Leipzig had impressed in his opening four Premier League matches but had failed to score his first top-flight goal in this country. But the Germany international did get off the mark against Southampton as he netted two first half goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw. After running at the Saints back-four to then convert his first, the goal-getter controlled the ball, flicked it over the ‘keeper and headed home to cooly convert his second. With his finishing ability and calmness in the box, there’s no doubt these will be the first of many in the Premier League for the Blues star.
