4. Greece (Euro ’80)

 They are one of only nine nations to win the European Championships, but Greece’s qualification for the 1980 tournament in Italy was highly unexpected at the time.

It was their first appearance at a major finals, having qualified top of a group that also included two of the strongest nations in world football at the time – the former champions the Soviet Union, and Hungary.

They wouldn’t make it past the qualifiers again until 2004, when they produced one of the biggest shocks in football history by beating the hosts Portugal in the final to win the tournament.
