The Brazilian winger had signed for Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala in January 2013, but found himself on the transfer list in the Summer of 2013 due to restructuring at business level of the club. Shortly after his transfer listing, Tottenham Hotspur had agreed a fee and Willian travelled to London for a medical with the Premier League side. Before Willian put name to paper at White Hart Lane, Tottenham’s London rivals, Chelsea, had agreed a fee with Anzhi and had stolen the Brazilian’s signature under the noses of their city rivals.
