Tottenham have reportedly launched a £23.7m bid for Manchester United target and Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez, according to Marca (via the International Business Times).

The Premier League side, who currently sit second in the English top-flight following their 2-1 home defeat to the hands of Southampton at White Hart Lane on Sunday, are ready to pip their rivals to the signing of the Atletico Madrid star this summer.

The 21-year-old, who is a Spain Under-21 international but has not made his senior international debut, has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 46 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga giants so far this season.

Niguez, who started his youth career with Spanish rivals Real Madrid, has become a key figure of Diego Simeone’s side this term and reportedly has a £35.5m release clause in his current deal.

However the report suggests that Atletico are looking to reward the central midfielder with a new lucrative deal in a bid to ward off potential suitors, following Spurs’ £23.7m approach.
