Tottenham host Liverpool at White Hart Lane in the Premier League’s Saturday lunchtime fixture, as both sides look for a positive result, after contrasting fortunes last weekend.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs will be buoyed ahead of their second home match in succession, after Victor Wanyama’s second-half header secured a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace in a London derby, a result which secured their first maximum points of the 2016/17 season.

Following the win over Alan Pardew’s Palace, the North London outfit have four points from their opening two top-flight encounters, despite a lethargic start to the campaign, so the Liverpool game provides an opportunity for them to fully kick-start their season.

Tottenham currently reside in seventh position in the league standings, prior to the visit of the men from Merseyside, as the Lilywhites strive for another Premier League title-challenge, having concluded last term in third position.

Gaining three points against a Liverpool side who are wounded from Saturday’s defeat to newly-promoted Burnley at Turf Moor, will, for a few hours at least, see Tottenham top the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side will arrive at White Hart Lane for the early kick-off after a resounding 5-0 triumph over Burton Albion of the Championship at the Pirelli Stadium in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, however the win over the Brewers doesn’t hide the concerns from the loss in east Lancashire.

Goals in the first-half from Sam Vokes and Andre Gray ensured that Liverpool departed the home of the Clarets empty handed, on a day to forget for their German manager.

Liverpool’s previous trip to this corner of the capital earlier in August saw the Reds come away from the Emirates Stadium victorious in a seven-goal thriller against Arsenal.

Registering a North London double would be a significant step in the right direction for Liverpool, who will have aspirations of returning to European competitions under Klopp’s stewardship, sooner rather than later.

The last league meeting between the two sides at White Hart Lane finished in a goalless stalemate back on October 17, 2015.

Team News:

Michel Vorm will continue in goal for Tottenham on Saturday, replacing Hugo Lloris, who has been sidelined for four weeks with a hamstring injury.

Moussa Dembele serves the fifth of his six game suspension, other than that, Spurs can call upon the rest of their playing squad for the clash at home to Liverpool on Saturday.

For Liverpool, goalkeeper Loris Karius nears a return to full fitness from a wrist injury he sustained in pre-season.

Meanwhile, industrious midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum, a summer recruit from Newcastle United, is set to return to the Liverpool starting XI, after being on the bench for the Burton win.
