West Ham United are reportedly lining up a loan move for young Manchester United defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson, according to the Sun on Sunday.

The 19-year-old has been told that he can leave the Red Devils on a temporary basis this season by manager Jose Mourinho, and he is understood to be a target for Hammers boss Slaven Bilic, who is looking for defensive cover after Aaron Cresswell was ruled out for three to four months with a knee injury picked up in pre-season.

However, Borthwick-Jackson’s parent club want reassurances over the amount of first-team football he will receive at the Olympic Stadium before letting him go, as they want to him to gain experience before returning to Old Trafford.

The youngster, who signed a new deal in May that will keep him at the club until 2020, impressed under the leadership of Louis van Gaal last term, making 14 appearances in all competitions.
