West Ham attacking midfielder Dimitri Payet has been one of the signings of the season in the Premier League, so much so that he was offered a return to the France squad by Didier Deschamps after a nine-month absence for the international friendlies over the Easter weekend.

And the 29-year-old certainly didn’t disappoint. He was praised by Deschamps following his performance in the 3-2 win against the Netherlands, in which he hit the post and created six chances – more than double any other player on the pitch.

Better was still to come for Payet though as he was introduced as a second half substitute against Russia at the Stade de France on Tuesday, curling a sublime free-kick into the goal via the post from around 35 yards with his first touch.

The Irons star then set up Kingsley Coman as Les Bleus ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, and he may well have booked his place in the squad for the European Championships in his home country this summer.
