Dutchman Giovanni Van Bronckhorst was embarking on his first season in English football after moving from Rangers in the summer of 2001.

He made 33 appearances in the 2001/02 campaign, although that was interrupted by a knee ligament injury he suffered in February 2002.

That impacted on the following season, where the midfielder played just 30 times in all competitions before moving on loan to Barcelona in 2003, and then making the move permanent in 2004.

The 41-year-old finished his playing career at Feyenoord and is now manager of the Dutch side, helping them to victory over Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United in the Europa League back in December.
