The 2001/02 season was Edu’s first full campaign at Arsenal since arriving at the club in January 2001.

However, he could only make 14 league appearances, eight of which were starts, in that season, but played often in their cup competitions, and scored his first goal for the club in their League Cup win over Grimsby a few weeks after the United game.

The Brazilian, who was capped 15 times by his country, left North London in 2004 having made 127 appearances for Arsenal, and made the move to Valencia.

Edu finished his career where he started it at Corinthians, and is now their director of football.
