Just five months after helping City to beat Chelsea, Nigel De Jong appeared in the 2010 World Cup final for Netherlands in their 1-0 defeat to Spain.

The Dutch midfielder was fortunate to stay on the pitch after a very high tackle on Xabi Alonso went unpunished, however he was a fans’ favourite during his four-year spell at the Etihad.

The 32-year-old was a part of the team that won the FA Cup in 2011 and then the Premier League the following season, but he then signed a three-year contract at AC Milan in 2012.

De Jong spent three-and-a-half years in Italy before moving to MLS side LA Galaxy in January 2016, but is now at Turkish giants Galatasaray having signed a two-year deal there in August this year.
