City’s other goalscorer that day, Craig Bellamy was embarking on what turned out to be his first and only full season at the Etihad.

Mark Hughes had signed the former Welsh international in January 2009, and he scored four goals in 11 games in the second half of that season before netting 11 times in 40 matches in the 2009/10 campaign, including two at Stamford Bridge.

Bellamy went on loan to boyhood club Cardiff in 2010/11, and ended his Man City stay by signing for Liverpool in the summer of 2011.

The 37-year-old returned permanently to Cardiff in 2012 and retired from playing in 2014 after being unable to keep the side in the Premier League.
