3 massive January deals Chelsea missed out on

James Rodriguez’s future at Real Madrid is far from certain after a season of restricted first team opportunities.

The Colombian captain, who captured the imagination of many during the 2014 World Cup, and indeed earned himself a dream move to the Bernabeu for it, has started just four of their 19 La Liga games this season, while also starting just three of their six Champions League group matches.

The 25-year-old is clearly a surplus to requirements in the Spanish capital, and there were reports back in December that Chelsea were looking to bring the attacker to England during the winter window.

The Blues reportedly attempted to sign Rodriguez in the last days of the summer window but to no avail and, although the potential deal seemed to go quiet as January progressed, you sense that it was a deal Chelsea could have done, and may still do at the end of the season.
