James McCarthy has seen his Everton career stutter since the appointment of Dutchman Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park.

The Republic of Ireland international has fallen down the pecking order on Merseyside, such is the great form of Gareth Barry and Idrissa Gueye, and has been restricted to just two Premier League starts so far this season.

Consequently, the 25-year-old may decide to move on, especially as his place in the Irish national team could come under threat if he isn’t playing regular first team football.

Thus, being a boyhood Celtic fan, a transfer to Celtic Park would be beneficial to both parties, and is a deal that should be done in January.
