3 things Chelsea fans will take away from their FA Cup semi-final win over Tottenham

Ake a bow

After Gary Cahill was ruled out of the semi final through illness, Dutch defender Nathan Ake was called upon to take the reins at left-centre back.

Ake spent the first half of the season playing for AFC Bournemouth, but was recalled by the Blues in January as cover for defender Marcos Alonso.

However, since his return, Ake had only played twice for the Blues prior to the victory over Spurs, both of which came in previous rounds of the FA Cup against Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ake was fantastic during the six-goal thriller and he certainly staked his claim for future first team opportunities.

Based on his performance against Tottenham, Ake deserves to retain his place for Chelsea’s next match against Southampton on Tuesday.
