On his 400th club career appearance the 34-year-old stopper completed a remarkable feat as he saved two penalties against Manchester City.

David Silva was fouled by Phil Jagielka in the first half, but Kevin De Bruyne was denied by the Dutch ‘keeper as he saved well to his left side.

After the interval and this time it was Sergio Aguero whose shot was saved, the fourth penalty he’s missed this season for club and country, as Stekelenburg excellently spread himself to the left once again after Jagielka had fouled the Argentina international.

Despite stopping two spot-kicks he made seven other saves but was ultimately he could do nothing as he was beaten by Nolito’s header which cancelled out Romelu Lukaku’s opener.
