Leeds United may well have produced their best Championship campaign since 2011, yet there was a tinge of disappointment after missing out on the play-offs.

Garry Monk’s side were well-lodged inside the top six for the majority of 2017, but a run of just two wins from their final 11 fixtures saw them slip out of contention, and eventually finish five points adrift of sixth place Fulham.

And, despite a much-improved campaign, which saw them finish six places and 16 points better off than last term, there was frustration among Leeds fans after seeing their chances of returning to the Premier League for the first time since 2004 come to an early end.

And speculation was also building about manager Monk who, although he brought much-needed stability to the Yorkshire outfit this season, was reportedly facing the axe after failing to finish inside the top six.

Yet recent reports suggest that the 38-year-old, who has been linked with the Middlesbrough job in the last few days, will indeed remain in charge at Elland Road, with the Championship outfit side to trigger a clause in his contract to tie him down to another 12 months at the helm.

And this news stimulated quite the response from Leeds fans on social media, and while many struggled to contain their delight at the prospect of Monk remaining in charge, some questioned why the former Swansea boss has only been given a 12-month extension, feeling his work this term warranted more…
