Manchester City were unable to get a deal done for young centre-back Aymeric Laporte in the summer but, given Vincent Kompany’s persistent injury troubles, Guardiola may try again in January.

Although John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi have done well together this season, injury or suspension could cause issues given the lack of alternative options.

Thus, Guardiola may look at 22-year-old Laporte, who is widely regarded as one of the best young centre-backs in the world.
