Manchester City are plotting a club-record bid to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, according to reports.
With Fernandinho turning 34 next month, it’s been speculated that the champions are looking for a long-term replacement for their reliable Brazilian.
Now The Telegraph are reporting that the Cityzens, who are in a battle with Liverpool to defend their Premier League title, are set to make a move for the talented Spain international.
The 22-year-old has a release clause of £60.6million, which would surpass the £60million the Sky Blues paid Leicester City for Riyad Mahrez last summer.
It’s claimed that City director of football, Txiki Begiristain, has been monitoring the Atleti star this term as they look to wrap up a deal to bring him to England.

Rodri was actually released by his current club in 2013 but they signed him back in May 2018 after he impressed playing for Villarreal.
Since returning to the capital the midfielder has established himself as a key part of Diego Simeone’s side at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Overall he’s made 42 appearances in all competitions and picked up a UEFA Super Cup winners’ medal at the start of the campaign.
