Tottenham Hotspur have made Donny van de Beek their top replacement for Cristian Eriksen should he leave to join Real Madrid in the summer, according to reports by FC Inter News.

The report suggests that Spurs, who face Ajax in their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, are the front-runners for the young Dutch midfielder’s signature.

Ajax will request up to a reported £43million for the 22-year-old, but the Lillywhites also face strong competition from Serie A side Inter Milan.

The report also claims that manager Mauricio Pochettino will “shell out without delay” in the chase for the star.

Eriksen has been a superstar for Spurs since his move from Ajax in 2013.

The midfielder has played 44 times for Ajax in all competitions this season, scoring a total of 14 goals.

Spurs’ current playmaker Eriksen has been rumoured to be moving to Real Madrid on the back of another standout season with the North London side.

The Dane would leave a huge void in the squad should he make the move to Spain which would therefore require Spurs to spend in order to find a replacement.
