Cesc Fabregas had been out of favour at Chelsea until he started their 3-1 win over City on Saturday, as he replaced the injured Nemanja Matic in the midfield.

The Spaniard had up to then played just 55 minutes of Premier League football this season, and was attracting interest from a host of European clubs.

One of these, reportedly, were City themselves.

The Sun on Sunday suggested that Guardiola was looking to bring the 29-year-old to the Etihad in January, but you sense that the final scenes in Saturday’s encounter is hardly going to endear Fabregas to the City players, or indeed the manager.

Guardiola looked to have rejected Fabregas’ offer of a handshake at the final whistle, and recent reports suggest that it wasn’t just because of the Chelsea man’s part in the Fernandinho dismissal, but also the previous the two have had at Barcelona.

If this is the case, then it’s highly unlikely that Guardiola would want to sign Fabregas, even before Saturday’s unsavoury scenes at the Etihad.
