Last season, the race for the Golden Boot in the Premier League was very close indeed with Tottenham striker Harry Kane (25 goals) finally outscoring Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy (24 goals).

Although Kane came away with the award, the most memorable moment will be when Vardy scored in 11 successive Premier League games, breaking the previous record set by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

Undoubtedly, these three will be serious contenders for the award yet again but they will face strong competition from Premier League newcomers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ahmed Musa, as well as the likes of Odion Ighalo, Riyad Mahrez, Oliver Giroud, Diego Costa and Romelu Lukaku.

Many of the teams at the top have not signed an out-and-out striker over the summer, but there could still be the odd dark horse or last minute signing who may enter the fray for this desirable award.

With that in mind, here are five of the frontrunners for the 2016/17 Premier League Golden Boot…

5. Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool)

Now, you may be thinking that this one is unlikely due to his unlucky injury record, but if the Liverpool striker can keep fit and injury free, there is no doubt that he could easily outscore the likes of current teammate Christian Benteke, Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez and Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney.

In 2013/14, the 26-year-old was runner-up in this competition to teammate Luis Suarez, scoring 21 goals in the season.

Now; with the likes of Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mané creating opportunities around the striker and only really facing competition from Divock Origi and Danny Ings at Anfield, with Benteke expected to leave, there is no reason why he should not be challenging for the Golden Boot.
