With the 2016/17 season well underway, there are still a remarkable number of players with Premier League experience available on a free transfer.
In the past, several high profile players have signed for clubs on a free transfer including Jurgen Klinsmann to Tottenham, Bacary Sagna to Manchester City and, of course, Sol Campbell to Arsenal.
However, whilst some of the top players have signed for absolutely nothing, others have been signed for fees that have been outrageously expensive and, in the current climate, transfer valuations are through the roof.
Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United highlight this perfectly through the signings of world class duo Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic– one signed for £89million and the latter completely free.
During the summer, the likes of Kolo Toure (Celtic), Steve Sidwell (Brighton) and Victor Valdes (Middlesbrough) have already been snapped up on a free and there are still plenty of players without a club for the season ahead.
Here are five Premier League stars that should be joining a club for absolutely nothing come the end of transfer deadline day…
5. Stephane Sessegnon
Having only featured intermittently for West Brom last season, Sessegnon could be on his way to French side Marseille before the end of the summer.
The attacking midfielder first made his mark in France playing for both Le Mans and Paris Saint-Germain and could be a great addition for Marseille, who are currently looking to rebuild after an abysmal season last year.
Many Baggies fans were disappointed with the Benin international’s departure as they valued his attacking flair, which is something that the side from the Hawthorns have lacked in recent years under Tony Pulis.
Sessegnon has over 100 Premier League appearances and scored 25 times for previous clubs Sunderland and West Brom.
