Top 5: Summer 2017 Premier League Transfers

Wayne Rooney

He may have returned to Merseyside on a free transfer, but Wayne Rooney’s decision to re-join Everton on a two-year deal should resurrect his club and country career.

The 31-year-old became Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer back in January, but left Old Trafford earlier this month after netting just eight times for The Red Devils in all competitions during the 2016-17 campaign.

With fellow striker Romelu Lukaku moving in the opposite direction, switching Blue for Red, Rooney’s game time under manager Jose Mourinho would have been restricted even further, seeing the legend instead seal a return to his boyhood club.
