West Ham are interested in taking Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

Earlier this week, the Frenchman turned down a big-money move to China despite an annual salary of £9million tabled by Chinese Super League outfit Dalian Yifang.

The 32-year-old hinted earlier this month that a move back to his homeland could be on the cards, but it is understood that he is still attracting interest from the Premier League.

Considering reports that West Ham’s deal with Celta Vigo for striker Maxi Gomez involves the player being loaned back to the La Liga club for the rest of the season, a loan for Giroud could fit both Chelsea and the Hammers.

Gomez has scored nine times in 19 La Liga games this term.

After star-man Marko Arnautovic limped off during the Hammers’ midweek loss away at Wolverhampton Wanderers, boss Manuel Pellegrini could be lacking options at the top end of the pitch.

The former Arsenal man faces an uncertain future with the Blues after Gonzalo Higuain’s loan move from Juventus is likely to have knocked him further down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.

Giroud signed from London-rivals Arsenal during last season’s January transfer window, but has struggled to make an impact under Maurizio Sarri – with only one goal in 18 appearances to his name this term.
