The England captain has been edging closer to Charlton’s 43-year record over the course of the season, and he drew level with the United legend just seven minutes into their FA Cup clash with the Royals when he finished from Juan Mata’s cross.

Rooney is England’s record goal-scorer, and now looks set to break the United record in the coming weeks, perhaps against Liverpool at Old Trafford next weekend?
