What’s Hot and What’s Not from the FA Cup third round weekend

NOT – Stoke

Saturday saw a full strength Stoke team come up against a side that hadn’t won an FA Cup game since 2011, as Mark Hughes’ Potters entertained Championship outfit Wolves at the bet365 Stadium.

Yet Hughes’ team, which included the likes of Bojan, Xherdan Shaqiri, and Marko Arnautovic, lost 2-0 at home to Paul Lambert’s men, with goals from Helder Costa and Matt Doherty booking their place in the last 32.

Like Everton, Stoke were clearly targeting a cup run given the strength of side Hughes put out, but they laboured throughout and were deservedly beaten.

Like Everton, Stoke are very unlikely to go down and equally as unlikely to finish in the top six, so a cup run should have been a big priority in the second half of the season, especially given that they have never won the FA Cup.

Like Everton though, Stoke have fallen at the first hurdle.
