What’s Hot and What’s Not from this weekend in the Premier League

HOT – Andy Carroll and West Ham

It has been a tricky week for West Ham after manager Slaven Bilic confirmed in his pre-match press conference that star man Dimitri Payet had refused to play for the club.

However, they put that to one side and produced arguably their best home performance of the season to comfortably beat Crystal Palace 3-0, and consign former boss Sam Allardyce to an unhappy return to East London.

The star man for the Hammers was striker Andy Carroll, who had an excellent game anyway until unleashing a moment of brilliance to seal the victory for the hosts.

The England striker met Michail Antonio’s cross in mid-air with an unbelievable left-footed scissor-kick which sailed past the despairing Wayne Hennessey, who of course was the keeper beaten by Olivier Giroud’s magical scorpion kick at the Emirates Stadium a few weeks ago.

Carroll’s return from injury over the past few weeks has given everyone at the London Stadium a boost and, when the club really needed someone to give them a lift after a testing few days, Carroll did just that.
