Centre Back: Ramon Vega
Then: After starring for six years at Swiss champions Grasshoppers, Vega got his move into the big leagues with Italian side, Cagliari. After just seven months with the club, Spurs decided to splash out £3.5 million on the strapping centre half. Just 80 minutes into his debut at White Hart lane, Vega attempted to clear a tame cross by David Beckham but, unfortunately, ended up screwing the ball into his own net. It would be a sign of things to come for the Switzerland international.
Now: According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Vega has made over £15 million in London’s financial district since retiring from football in 2003. In terms of his Spurs career, he never quite managed to recover from his opening day mishap, eventually being released in the summer of 2000. In 2009, Vega unsuccessfully attempted to purchase Premier League side Portsmouth FC from its owner Alexandre Gaydamak.
