Manchester City are leading the race to land Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.

The 24-year-old has registered 27 goals and 14 assists in what has been a stunning individual campaign for the attacking midfielder.

Now Goal understand that Man City are in advanced talks with the Portuguese side over the signing of their prized asset.

Rivals Manchester United are also thought to be interested in the player but the Etihad outfit are in pole position following talks with super agent Jorge Mendes, who’s been hired to broker a move.

Fernandes has been in prolific form for Sporting this term.

It’s thought Sporting are looking for around £60million for Fernandes which would make him the second highest signing in City’s history.

However, the defending Premier League champions are hoping that an offer of around £43m plus players – likely to be two of Marlos Moreno, Eliaquim Mangala, Douglas Luiz or Aleix Garcia – would be enough to land the Portugal international.

Fernandes joined Sporting from Italian side Sampdoria in 2017 and has since scored 44 times for the Lions.
